Paleo Indians: (10,000 to 8,000 B.C) The first 2,000 years of Indian Life. The word Paleo means ancient. They lived in small bands and they were nomads. Their diet consisted of meat from Bison, Mastodons, Giant Sloths, etc.
Archaic Indians: (8,000 to 1,00 B.C) 7,000 years. they adapted to a warming climate. They lived through the disappearance of the Mammoth and the Giant Sloth. Their diet consisted of meat from deer, bear, rabbit and squirrel. they also ate fruit/berries and vegetables.
Woodland Indians: (1,000 B.C to A.D 1,000) Built thousands of earthen mounds, many that are still here today. They varied in size, shape, and usage. Some were only a few feet high while others were enormous. Some had rounded tops while others had flat tops. They also made mounds in shapes of animals.
Mississippian Indians: (A.D 1,000 to 1,600) they were the first Indian ever start farming. Since they could make food by themselves they didnt have to keep moving. They stayed in one place. they started near the Mississippi River hence the name. They like rich bottomlands near rivers, long moist growing seasons, and good deer/turkey hunting. They rely more on agriculture.
