James Oglethorpe:James Edward Oglethorpe was born in London 1696. He was an educated man and was born into a wealthy family. He was a member of the British Parliament and he cared about others. He wanted to help people in need, so he presented an idea to King George II that stated he should make a new colony for the people in debtors prison. In the colony the colonists would try to work off the money that they owe. They would name it Georgia after King George II.
Charity, Economics, Defense:
These 3 things are the 3 main reasons why King George II and James Oglethorpe wanted/needed to create the 13th colony of Georgia.
Charity- people were in jail that didn't deserve to be and the population was getting so big that the British needed a place to put the. Economics- People would be paying back the debts they have created and they could use the raw materials in Georgia to help great Britian earn more money Defense- Georgia was considered a ''buffer zone'' between South Carolina and Florida since the Spanish were settled in La Florida and the British were in South Carolina. Therefore, Georgia would also be used as a naval base. Mary Musgrove:Mary Musgrove, wife of John Musgrove was a daughter of a Greek Indian mother and an English trader father. Therefore, she was part Indian part English. Since she was half and half she was used as a translator between James Oglethorpe and Chief Tomochici.

There were several rules with the Charter it stated that: There was no land ownership, no rum/alcohol, and lastly, no lawyers. The following people weren't allowed to enter the colony: blacks (so that the colonists were not introduced to slavery), liquor dealers, and lastly, no Catholics.
